Drill Seed vs. Broadcast
When seeding a large area drill seeding is more efficient because seeds are used sparingly and planted directly in optimal positions for growth. Broadcast seeding is less efficient; some seeds may remain on the surface, leading to wastage or exposure to birds and other animals.
Germination Facts
With drill seeding, there is a higher germination rate due to better seed-to-soil contact and proper depth, which provides a conducive environment for sprouting.Broadcast seeding germination rates can be lower because some seeds may not have proper contact with soil effecting the overall growth cycle.
Weed Management
It is easier to manage weeds after a meadow is drill seeded because the seeds are planted in rows thus making it more predictable where weeds could pop up when monitoring.
Broadcast Seeding makes weed management harder due to uneven crop spacing and coverage. Please read article below for our meadow story
